PM Surya Ghar Yojana is an initiative started by the Prime Minister of India to reduce the electricity cost of the poor citizens in India. According to this scheme, the Central Government will offer the poor population of the country the benefit of solar power. Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India announced the PM Surya Ghar Yojana on 22nd January 2024 and the scheme was initiated on 15th  February 2024. While the main aim is to help people get reduced electricity, the objective is also to promote green energy among people. Also, as per the calculations made, the scheme will allow the Government to save about Rs. 75,000 crore on electricity cost each year.

Eligibility Criteria of the Scheme

• The applicant must be a citizen of India.
• The candidate must have a house with a rooftop where the solar panel can be installed. 
• Only those are eligible who already have a valid electricity connection.
• The applicant must not be a part of any other solar subsidy scheme. 

PM Surya Ghar Yojana Application Process 2024

If you think you are eligible for the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, here is teh application process that you must follow. 

Step – 1 – Go to the official portal through https://www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in/ and click on Apply for Rooftop Solar

Step – 2 – Click on Registration and enter your details

Step – 3 – After completing the registration process, log in with your registered mobile number

Step – 4 – Fill out the form for PM Surya Ghar Yojana

Step – 5 – Upload the necessary documents and submit the application

Step – 6 – Soon, DISCOM will offer to approve or reject your application, depending upon the verification process. 

Step – 7 – If your application gets approved, contact any of the DISCOM-approved vendors in your area to install the plant. 

Step – 8 – Next, apply for the net meter with the vendor’s help. 

Step – 9 – Soon, authorities from DISCOM will arrive for verification. 

Step – 10 – Once the verification is complete, you will get a commissioning certificate when you log into your portal. 

Step – 11 – After logging into the portal, upload your bank details and a canceled cheque. You must get the subsidy amount within 30 days.
